Our extensive cellar
At The Old Government House Hotel & Spa we are delighted to present an intriguing and carefully chosen wine list that offers an outstanding blend of quality and value. Ranging from the Grand Crus of Burgundy and Bordeaux and the most prestigious marques of Champagne to personally selected wines from less celebrated regions, the wines are helpfully listed by style, and present a fascinating cross-section of the almost infinite variety and range of the world of wine.
Many of the wines listed are available by the glass, including a selection from the celebrated South African estate, Bouchard Finlayson. The OGH is proud to be among the few hotels selected to showcase these wines, which are widely acknowledged as among the finest now being produced in the Cape. Together with the other old and new world wines selected for The OGH list, we are confident that even the most discerning wine lover will find something within its pages to satisfy, amuse, and delight.
An Italian/French inspired blend of Sangiovese, Pinot noir, Nebbiolo, Shiraz, Mourvedré and Barbera.Matured for 16 months in French oak (30% first fill), red cherry, flowers, a whiff of truffle on the nose with a hint of spice. Tannins are velvety and offer a slow pronounced aromatic finish.
Prepared in the classic Burgundian fashion and then matured ‘sur lie’ for eight months in traditional 228 litre pieces. Packed with minerality, tight fruit flavours of pear, peaches and lychees resting on over-laying hints of oak, vanilla and autolized yeasts. Strong nutty components will evolve over time to create complexity and enhanced flavours.
A wine inspired by both winemaker and location - offering a true reflection of the terroir. Barrel-matured for 10 months in French oak (30% first fill), rich with luscious soft tannins and dark coloured forest fruits, deftly balanced on a cord of lingering plum and raspberry delights.
