Fancy a break with a difference? Then this one is sure to be your cup of tea.
The Guernsey Scarecrow Festival may not be up there with Wimbledon, The Chelsea Flower Show or Henley in terms visitor numbers and social cachet, but in its own quaint way it has them all beat for charm and curiosity value. It started in 2004 and grows larger each year, with ever more crazy entries, including motorised scarecrows, bohemian scarecrows and some simply bizarre entries that defy all description. There’s also a bar, Morris Dancing and an old tractor demonstration.
This is followed by an evening of high culture – Shakespeare’s much beloved comedy, “The Taming of the Shrew”, staged in the dramatic surroundings of Castle Cornet, with a delicious picnic hamper to make your evening’s entertainment complete.
