Few things are more romantic than a spontaneous break away from the norm. This Valentine's Day, why not visit the beautiful island of Guernsey, with its stunning landscapes, wealth of history and atmospheric capital of St Peter Port?

If you're looking for inspirational things to do with your loved one, read on below. Start by booking into The Old Government House Hotel and Spa, where the Magical Valentine's Day package can truly make the time away particularly special with chocolates and Champagne.

Fermain Bay

This stunning cove is easily one of the most picturesque places on the island, with its gorgeous stretch of sand and beautiful bathing pools. It's easy to drive there, but all the more rewarding if you take in the stellar views from the clifftop walk along the edge of the island from St Peter Port. You can catch a fantastic glimpse of Fort Grey, a 13th century garrison.

Candie Gardens

Once upon a time, these extensive gardens were part of a private estate. Now, they have been recreated in their original Victorian style, and they're a joy to explore all year round. If you're feeling the chill, take your partner inside the oldest known heated greenhouses in the British Isles. The gardens are open until dusk - go early if you want a good view of St Peter Port harbour.

Herm Island

It's often difficult to get away from it all. If you want to experience true isolation with only your special partner for company, Herm Island is the place to go for the day. Take a boat trip across to this little landmass located just off the coast of Guernsey. No cars, no crowds, no stress. The beaches are completely and utterly pristine, while some of the interesting flora on the island is also worth examining.
