Guernsey gears up for International Chess Festival

Chess players around the world will next month be preparing to travel to Guernsey for the International Chess Festival, a six-day extravaganza that sees enthusiasts facing off with nothing but their razor-sharp minds for comfort.

The central competition is a seven-round contest with cash prizes that has been known to attract Grandmasters and International Masters in the past.

However, the festival is known for its friendly atmosphere, with all ages and experience levels welcome to attend.

At the Open Tournament, the highest placed eligible player will be given the opportunity to play at the British Chess Championship 2014 - a fantastic opportunity.

It would be a smart move for players or supporters to check themselves into the Old Government House Hotel for easy access to the tournament, which takes place in Vale from October 20th to the 26th.

Take a break from the tense chess hall with the Discover Guernsey package, which allows guests to see a little bit of this extraordinary island.
